Bruno Martins

 
Born in 1988 in Branca (Aveiro), he began his musical studies at the JOBRA Music Conservatory. 
 
As a tenor, he won first prize in the VII edition of the Santa Cecília Competition. Graduated in Singing from the University of Aveiro, where he studied under the guidance of António Salgado. Throughout his career, he has devoted himself to three main areas: singing, accompaniment, and conducting both choirs and orchestras. In 2013, he completed a postgraduate degree in Opera and Music-Theatre Studies at ESMAE/IPP – Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, under the tutelage of Maestro António Saiote. Over the course of his career, he has had the opportunity to work with renowned conductors such as Adriano Martinolli D’Arcy, Edgar Saramago, Jean-Sébastien Béreau, Jorge Matta, Mário Mateus, Walter Kobéra, Vasco Negreiros, Ajtony Csaba, Gyorgy Klementyev, and Ernst Schelle.
 
As a teacher, he has taught at several institutions, including the Ourém and Fátima Music Conservatory, the Regional Conservatory of Castelo Branco, the Fundão Music Academy, and the S. José da Guarda Music Conservatory.
 
Between 2014 and 2015, he was a guest conductor for the Orquestra Clássica do Centro and participated in the Artistic Direction of the association. He collaborated with ESMAE/IPP on several projects, including conducting the ESMAE Symphony Orchestra. He was a guest conductor at the Beira Interior Music Festival, organised by SCUTVIAS, and in 2017, he took on the role of Artistic Director for the XII Beira Interior Music Festival, premiering the piece Monsanto, composed by Luís Cipriano. In 2018, at the invitation of Maestro António Vassalo Lourenço, he conducted the premiere of Gloria in excelsis Deo, part of the cycle Three Sacred Pieces for Mixed Choir, with the Choir of the Department of Communication and Arts of the University of Aveiro.
 
Through the Erasmus+ Training programme, he worked as an assistant to conductors Javier Castro Villamor and Blanca Anabitarte at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Castile and León (COSCYL – Salamanca), also serving as a vocal coach for the choirs. From 2017 to 2020, he was part of the Artistic Direction of the Figueira da Foz Music Festival and held the position of conductor for the National Youth Orchestra. From 2019 to January 2021, he assumed the role of Artistic and Pedagogical Director of the Quinta do Picado Music School Association – Banda Quinta do Picado (Aradas, Aveiro).
 
As a composer, highlights include the premieres of his works Libera me Domine (2017) in Fundão and Numa noite só, premiered at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Paris. He also contributed to the composition of pieces for the book Era uma vez… (short pieces for piano), published by AvA Musical Editions and the Fundão Academy of Music and Dance. Recently, his work Natal é Família, a Christmas cantata for children with a libretto by Liliana Conceição, was premiered.
 
Currently, he is the conductor of the Orfeão da Covilhã Choir, a teacher at its Conservatory, conductor of the Vox Lusitana Ensemble, and Artistic Director of the Setúbal International Music Festival.
